Scott Mims

Aside from teaching, Scott also owns and operates a restoration business that produces both disaster restoration and residential cleaning jobs. After attending the University of Kentucky and the University of Alabama on a football scholarship Scott started in the business as a carpet cleaning and water damage technician while working his way up to General Manager of the company before purchasing the company that had a 25 year history. Scott grew up in the construction and restoration industry with his father and grandfather who both ran construction businesses.

Scott is an IICRC approved instructor in Odor Control Technician (OCT), Fire & Smoke Remediation Technician (FSRT), Water Restoration Technician (WRT), Applied Structural Drying (ASD), and Commercial Drying Specialist (CDS) and has taught throughout the US as well as in Canada. His approach to teaching is formed through his daily hands on activities within his business still performing hundreds of residential and commercial water and fire restoration losses each year.

Scott has previously served as TAC chair over the WRT committee leading them to exam revision in 2008. He also served from 2006-2008 as the Cleaning Division Chair of the IICRC overseeing all cleaning related courses. And from 2008-2012, he served as the Restoration Division Chair of the IICRC overseeing all restoration related certification categories. Scott is a participating member on all sixteen (16) restoration and cleaning related technical advisory committees within the IICRC.

Scott is a Master Water Restorer, Master Fire & Smoke Restorer, and Master Textile Cleaner.

Scott is currently serving as the TAC Chair of the Commercial Drying Specialist (CDS) course and the Vice-Chair of the newly formed Contents Restoration and Cleaning course still in development.
